Appleseed and Issue 2

Appleseed-2013-print-WachterOur favorite con of the year is just around the corner.  Appleseed Comic Con (formerly the Summit City Comic Con) is next Saturday, May 11, in our hometown stomping grounds of Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Folks, we can’t talk this show up enough.  It’s totally creator-focused, very family-friendly, and pulls in a great crowd every year.

The con’s organizer, the most excellent Zack Kruse, gives creators their tables for free, which is not only magnanimous but practically unheard of.  We would normally pay $50-100 for a show with this much foot traffic!  But Zack’s whole focus is finding the best comic creators, bringing them to the show, and setting them up like royalty.  He’s a class act.  You can read a preview article about the show here, or click here to visit the show’s site and get the details.  We can’t wait and hope to see you there with our usual assortment of goodies and con-only specials that you won’t want to miss!

Also, a big thanks to everybody who came out and saw us at SPACE a couple weeks back.  It was a great show — we met a lot of new fans and had a few returning from last year.  Schedules permitting, we should be back next year too!

That’s right — if you haven’t heard from our Facebook page (or our nice little con widget to the left there), Black Rose is headed to SPACE!

Yes, the Small Press and Comics Expo in Columbus, Ohio — this weekend, April 13-14.  It’ll be our second year exhibiting and we’re very excited to return.  Last year was a great show (you can see a couple pics and a short writeup at Brandon’s blog) and this is a perfect way to kick off our 2013 con season.

We’re going to have our complete lineup of merch available, plus several con-only combo deals that aren’t available in our online store!

Welcome to Black Rose

Welcome to the newly relaunched Black Rose site!

Those of you who’ve been with us for a while know that we’ve been self-publishing Black Rose as a print comic for the past three years. Today marks our entrance into the digital publishing realm as we relaunch Black Rose as a webcomic!

We’re going to start off posting a page every weekday, Monday through Friday. We’ll start from Black Rose’s beginning and work our way through the first six-issue arc (which is currently available in print, if you didn’t know!). After that, we’ll head into new territory with Issue #7 (and beyond), and slow things down to our normal, ongoing update schedule of every Tuesday and Thursday.

From this point forward, our “issues” will be released digitally on our site, a page at a time. In fact, we’re no longer printing copies of our first six issues. If you’ve been wanting to get your hands on a full set, pick them up before we run out!

But fear not, print lovers. We’re continuing to release Black Rose in trade paperbacks, along with our other printed stuff like art prints and limited-edition sketchbooks. We’re big book fans ourselves and really prefer reading (and producing!) trades as opposed to issues. Hopefully you do, too!

If you’re an existing reader, thanks for sticking with us.  After the initial recap of our existing material, Issue #7 will be coming out on our site later this year, kicking off our second story arc. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on — things are going to get epic.

On a more personal note, designing and coding this site has consumed a significant portion of my free time lately, and there are still a ton of improvements I want to make.  Bear with me as I get things up and running. If you find something that looks broken, chances are it’s already on my radar!

Oh, and welcome to Black Rose — the death of fantasy.
