Chris and I scripted this entire six-issue arc before Aaron ever started penciling pages, to ensure we had a firm grasp on the characters and story. But we were concerned that the first issue (being focused on Arion’s last days in the army) wouldn’t paint an accurate picture of how the ongoing story would play out. So we decided to start Issue 1 with a flashforward of this climactic scene, showing readers that there was more variety on the way, and that’s how the issue originally went to print.
