Complications
The first draft of this scene had Aliyana delivering her dialogue while sad/angry, but we went back and added a few key details — her eavesdropping while pretending to be asleep, her quick smile here when Trellis is looking away. Is she truly upset? Or is this all a calculated manipulation? Things are always more interesting when characters are unreliable narrators.
